TYPICAL MISTAKES OF FORENSIC BALLISTICS

Nowadays on the territory of the Russian Federation has significantly increased the number of crimes committed with firearms, which is the subject of forensic ballistic evidence. Our expert opinions analysis revealed a number of common mistakes that planners make this production expertise.
These primarily include providing object on a forensic ballistic expertise without description, status, and names of individual signs, questioning the reliability of the expert's study of objects in question. So, during the search, investigators seized object, which, in his view, is outwardly similar to the pistol and pointed it at a forensic ballistic examination. Prior expert questions were raised: whether a subject resembling a gun, firearm? Expert inspected and found that the design of the object, its dimensional characteristics, allow to assume that details items specific to stun device. Following the experimental shots, they concluded that the research subject is the strongest made small calibre revolver, applies to firearms, and threaded pipe is suitable for shooting sports and hunting cartridges caliber 5, 6 mm [1].
